2 Day Kanchanaburi Adventure Tour

Kanchanaburi Province, butted up against Burma (Myanmar) to the west of Bangkok, harbours the largest protected forest area in Southeast Asia; in places Kanchanaburi is wild and remote. Tropical waterfalls are liberally scattered around, some easy to reach others demanding a mini expedition. Home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, you will also stumble upon a diversity of historical sites and cultural intrigue as well.

Kanchanaburi is an adventurer’s paradise but not so long ago the area was a nightmare for thousands of visitors, or Japanese Prisoners of War, who were ordered to construct what is now referred to as the Death Railway. For many Kanchanaburi became their final resting place but they have not been forgotten by any means and the Second World War cemetery in Kanchanaburi town is still maintained in pristine condition.

Over the 2 days of this Kanchanaburi Adventure Tour from Bangkok you will have the opportunity to dive headlong in the jungles to discover the nature within and to swim in pools beneath the cascading waters of a jungle waterfall. There are caves and remote Temples to visit, rural communities and their crafts to learn about and of course plenty of time to relax and savour the delights of real Thai food!

Day 1

Its an early start from Bangkok when we pick you up from your Bangkok hotel at 7.00am for the drive westwards towards Burma and the province of Kanchanaburi. Upon arrival stop at the World War II cemetery and museum and visit the infamous “Bridge over the River Kwai”.

We then continue westwards to the idyllic Erawan Waterfall, a quintessential tropical waterfall consisting of 7-Tiers that send crystal clear water cascading through the jungle canopy. Cresting Erawan Waterfall is not for the feint-hearted despite the ample opportunities for a refreshing dip along the way and the path; the going is steep and the waterfall big!

Reaching the first tier is a mere 800m hike and it is worth continuing the trek upwards to the 2nd tier where the limestone rock turns the water cobalt blue creating an idyllic jungle pool that is perfect for a quick dip!

We then continue onwards to the vast Sri Nakarin Reservoir for lunch before going off-road following dirt-tracks into the forest passed remote rural villages to the forest station of Huay Mae Khamin. A little bit further along the dirt track we board a small car ferry for the journey across Sri Nakarin Reservoir to the resort. ETA at the resort should be around 5pm.

Overnight: Pittawan Resort (Fan rooms).

Day 2

Waking up in the morning to the sound of birds and if you are lucky a mist hanging over the reservoir is something to behold. No need to rush! Have breakfast, relax, swim and enjoy the setting. When everyone is ready its off the Phapirun Temple (Wat Phapirun) to meet the monks and see the lifestyle and routines of rural monkhood.

After the temple we visit another mouthwateringly beautiful jungle waterfall before stopping off at a Karen Hill Tribe Village to have a glimpse at their lifestyle, the rubber plantations and the products that they produce.

Enjoy lunch overlooking the lake and then its back in the car for the return journey to Kanchanaburi town and onwards to Bangkok and your Bangkok Hotel.

Kanchanaburi

Kanchanburi is located to the west of Bangkok. One of the largest provinces in Thailand, Kanchanaburi is also one of the least populated and remains heavily forested. Its most famous landmark is the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai and if you can remember a movie called “The Deer Hunter” all the jungle and jungle river scenes were filmed here and little has changed, particularly off the beaten track.

Travelling from Bangkok you first reach Kanchanaburi town which is pleasant enough and also where you will find the war cemetery and the Bridge over the River Kwai. But it is onwards towards the Burmese border where the wilderness begins; acres upon acres of jungle wilderness that follows the Thai Burmese border northwards and is really one of the last frontiers in Thailand that hasn’t been conquered by Tourism.

Kanchanaburi province oozes adventure in all its guises. Soft Adventure is never far away from the main roads and for the more intrepid Kanchanaburi is one place to consider for serious adventure; multi day jungle trekking, white water rafting and onwards.
