Clockwise on an Exotic Burma Travel Journey
Burma travel at its best; this classic journey through Burma (now Myanmar) features all the main highlights as you explore this country, one of the last remained true travel frontiers, in clockwise.
With Hot Air Ballooning over the Temples of Bagan, a 2 day cruise on the Irrawaddy River and the opportunity to relax on the far less visited and scantily developed beach at Ngapali, this classic journey through Burma really will be an experience that crystallizes to become an incredibly potent memory.
The journey begins in Bangkok with the flight to the erstwhile capital of Rangoon (Yangon) with its fading colonial architecture and the glistening Shwedagon Pagoda.
The next leg of the journey is a short flight upcountry to Bagan (formerly Pagan). Over the vast plains of Bagan, literally 1000’s of ancient temples, approximately of commensurate age to those of Angkor, are dotted. Awe inspiring at ground level but utterly breathtaking from the air and on the second day of being in Bagan you will get a bird’s eye view from a Hot Air Balloon at day break!
Take a unhurried two day river cruise from Bagan to Mandalay passing remote villages and classic scenes of rural and still very traditional lifestyles on the banks of the Irrawaddy. Explore Mandalay before returning briefly to Yangon and onwards to the beach at Ngapali for several days of unadulterated relaxation in what remains undeveloped tropical paradise looking outwards over the Bay of Bengal.
Sleeping Arrangements
We have shortlisted the best hotels in each of the destinations for 3 travel styles: Traveller, Superior and Top End and where “top end” is concerned Burma hotels do it in style!

Sleeping Arrangements – The Cruise

Built in Yangon, the RV Paukan 2007 was launched in 2007. With 3 decks, each cabin in en suite. The RV Paukan 2007 is very comfy and relaxing and an incredibly elegant river cruise from which to experience the Irrawaddy River. Don’t miss the sundeck for sundowners; it’s an experience in itself.
Clockwise on an Exotic Burma Travel Journey: Location
The Classic Journey through Burma by ZiZ Asia departs from Bangkok and features Yangon (formerly Rangoon), Bagan (formerly Pagan) and Mandalay before plunging southwards to the idyllically undeveloped beach and coastline of Ngapali.
The itinerary features all the main highlights in Burma travel apart from Inle Lake which could easily be added should you wish to do so.
Best Time to Go
Burma / Myanmar has a monsoon climate with 3 seasons; the hot season (March to late May), the Monsoon season (May to October), and the cool season (late October to late February).
Arguably the best time to go is during the cool season which is also the high season as far as tourism is concerned. During the cool season you can expect temperatures of about 17 degree Celsius in Yangon. Both Bagan and Mandalay can certainly be visited during the Monsoon season as they tend to only get light showers.
