2 Day Bicycle Wine Tour in Khao Yai from Bangkok

On the first day of this exotic bicycle wine tour, the going is easy cycling on trails that are in excellent condition with a few gentle ups and downs but nothing too physically demanding and no technical cycling ability is required.

Day 2 encounters a few off-road sections and the ups and downs are a little bit more taxing than those encountered during the previous day but everyone has mountain bikes that are in excellent condition and Day 2 should not pose a problem for most people.

At all times you are accompanied by an experienced Cycling Guide who sets an even and relaxed pace. Stops are regular to visit points of interest, to see the stunning mountain views and to sample local foods. A support vehicle also follows you over the 2 days and is well stocked with water and refreshments to keep you fuelled along the way!

This 2 Day Bicycle Wine Tour in Khao Yai departs from Bangkok to explore the Vineyards and Wineries up in the hills. Suitable for all rider levels, the wine tour is a perfect escape for family fun or with a small group of friends. Enjoy it as a Bangkok Getaway or slot it into Thailand Holidays.

Day 1

We collect you from your Bangkok hotel fairly early in the morning (7.30 – 8.00am) and drive out of Bangkok on the northern trunk road to Khao Yai, a car journey less than 2 hours. Upon arrival drive along park roads flanked by thick jungle, the canopy occasionally offering glimpses of incredible views across mountains and valleys below.

Go trekking for a short distance to see the Heo Naraok Waterfall before arriving at your resort to check-in and have some lunch. In the afternoon the bike tour begins, cycling along well maintained trails and passing through patchwork countryside that might, from a distance, resemble some of the better known wine regions in France except for the banana trees and coconut palms dotted liberally around.

The first vineyard encounter on the wine tour is Gran Monte where you pull-up to do a wine tasting. Then its back on the bicycles weaving your way along quiet country roads to the second stop on the wine tour, Khao Yai Winery. Here you have the opportunity to cycle through the vineyards, to do a second wine tasting and also we are given a tour of the wine making facilities.

Day 2

Enjoy breakfast at your resort before departing on bicycles and cycling through the valleys of Khao Yai that present some spectacular views. Stop for lunch at the Hornbill Restaurant which is on the Khao Yai Winery Estate and then set out again cycling along quiet back roads for the return journey to your resort. Once back at the resort there is plenty of time to freshen up or take a dip in the swimming pool before returning to Bangkok by car.

Khao Yai Wine Tours

New World Wines are no stranger to dining tables or awards and along with India, Cambodia and Vietnam, Thailand’s fledgling wine industry is gaining a foothold among the wine producing countries and new world wine production.

On the edge of Khao Yai National Park, the Asoke valley is at an elevation of 350m above sea level. The valley is cool, dry and provides ideal conditions for nurturing wine grapes.

Gran Monte Winery

Set in 800 acres and planted with Shriaz, Tempranillo, Chenin Blanc, and Clombard grapes, Gran Monte produces excellent wines. The vineyards are family owned and operated. Set on 40 acres and grows a mixture of Syrah and Chenin Blanc vines to produce some great wines.

Khao Yai Winery

Set on a valley plain 300 metres above sea level close to Khao Yai National Park. Khao Yai Winery claims to be the birthplace of Khao Yai wine. The 800 Acre plantation includes 200 acres of good quality grapes and a 3,000 square-meter factory including a fermentation room housing French-made 225-litre oak barrels with the capacity to mature 450,000 litres of wine, or 600,000 bottles a year. A cellar door is available at both wineries, and any wine you want to buy will be packed for safe transfer back to the hotel.

Sleeping Arrangements

If you decide to do this Cycling tour of Khao Yai’s wine trails as a Group tour which departs every Saturday, you will stay overnight at Cabbages & Condoms Resort. If, on the other hand you take it as a Private Tour we can arrange it over any two days of the week that you choose and can offer a wider choice of hotels and resorts for you to choose from.

Cabbages & Condoms Resort

The Cabbages & Condoms Resort is part of a small collection of restaurants and resorts that are owned and managed by the Population, Community and Development Association (PDA) which is a Thai government organization established which operates various programs designed to support and assist poor rural communities in Thailand.

The resort sits in an incredibly scenic valley surrounded by jagged limestone mountains and in the shadow of Khao Yai (Khao means mountain in Thai) which stands sentinel over all others in the park. Comfy but not luxurious, the Cabbages & Condoms Resort offers a swimming pool and beautifully landscaped gardens but is most renowned for its restaurant which is as good as the Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant in Bangkok, far nicer surroundings as well!

Private Bike Tours

If you are taking this 2 Day bike tour as a private tour, not only can you choose the days of the week but also the accommodation that you prefer. For a 5-star mountain experience we would recommend Kirimaya Resort & Spa in Khao Yai which even offers luxurious tented accommodation as well as golf all in a mouth-wateringly beautiful setting.

Khao Yai National Park, Thailand

Khao Yai National Park is the oldest National Park in Thailand and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The National Park covers an area of some 2,168 sq km and is home to over 2,000 different species of vegetation and more than 300 species of birds and animals.

From Bangkok, Khao Yai National Park is less than 2 hours away by car and as you climb into the mountains the temperature falls providing a very welcome release from Bangkok’s heat and humidity. The rolling hills and temperate climate make Khao Yai a paradise for cycling (and much, much more!).

Over the 2 days spent in Khao Yai on this Bangkok escape you get a taste of idyllic bicycle trails in Khao Yai as well as wine and delicious Thai food!
